Ferberizing

So after 5 months, we finally put Jack in his crib and decided to start "Ferberizing." The Ferber Method for those of you who don't know is a method to teach a baby how to put himself to sleep. It means letting them cry but going in to calm them at increasing intervals. The first night we were supposed to go in after 3 minutes, then after 5 and then after 10. The good thing is, we never made it to 10 because he put himself to sleep quickly. Last night we went in after 5 minutes, then after 10 and then after 12. It took him half an hour, but he slept well most of the night, getting up only once but putting himself back to sleep quickly. And tonight we went in after 10 minutes and then he put himself to sleep. He is sleeping very well after just two days of "Ferberizing." In fact, so well that he napped today as well as he ever had: 1 1/2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. We are hopeful he will continue to make progress in this area. What a champ!
